Cycle Northern Ireland - 13 Jan 09
Spotted on BikeRadar:
“A new guide to cycling in Northern Ireland has been launched. The 51-page ‘Cycle Northern Ireland’ brochure focuses mainly on the County Antrim area, which boasts stunning glens and a rugged coastline.”
WANTED - Dinosaurs - Holywood area - 20 Nov 07
It was, of course, a request for toy dinosaurs, not the real thing and the missing ‘L’ tells you its Holywood, Northern Ireland, not Hollywood, Los Angeles. Still, it made me laugh when I read it.
Our Fifth Wedding Anniversary - 27 Sep 07
Continuing on the theme of writing about things that happened whilst we were away last week, I thought I’d better not let this one slip by.
Last Thursday was our 5th wedding anniversary and even though we were already ‘away’, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to spoil ourselves for just one night. So, with Ben enjoying the company of his Nana and Granda (my parents), we took ourselves off to the Beech Hill Country House Hotel, just outside Derry – Our second luxurious hotel break within two weeks, no less, but probably our last for a long, long time.
Back In Town - 23 Sep 07
We’re just home tonight from our little family holiday. Yes, it does seem like we’ve been away a lot recently, but given how long it had been before that, since our last break, I think we’ve deserved it.
Our First Family Holiday - 16 Jul 07

We’re just back from our first little trip away as a family. Our destination wasn’t anywhere exotic, the weather wasn’t fantastic and we were only away for 5 days, but it was still nice to get a break and we certainly enjoyed it.
For Cod and Ulster - 25 Jun 07
Surely only in Northern Ireland could you take a well-known, and potentially sensitive, political slogan and turn it into the name of a fish and chip shop? That’s exactly what the owners of ‘For Cod and Ulster’ have done, mimicking the ‘For God and Ulster’ motto of various Unionist organisations.
And the Rain Came Down - 13 Jun 07
Northern Ireland is certainly no stranger to damp summers, but even so, yesterday was quite exceptional. Having enjoyed a few hot and sunny days, the weather took a turn for the worse, with torrential rain and hail stones causing flash flooding in many areas.
What is an Eejit? - 11 Jun 07
Every week it seems that we get 2 or 3 hits on this site from people who are searching for the meaning or definition of ‘eejit’ or ‘eejits’. It seems only fair then that we should provide these poor souls with the answer that they are seeking.
M&S to Trial Plastic Bag Charge - 23 May 07
Northern Ireland to be the Guinea Pig
British retail giant Marks & Spencer has announced that it will trial a 5p charge per plastic bag, in their Northern Ireland stores, to encourage shoppers to use fewer disposable bags. If successful, the initiative could be rolled out through the entire UK as part of the chain’s ‘Plan A’ environmental policy.
NI Smoking Ban Starts Today - 30 Apr 07
Since 6am this morning, it has been illegal to smoke in enclosed public areas, such as shops, pubs, restaurants and, of course, offices, in Northern Ireland. I’m sure there will be those who will moan about about the ban, but personally I think its long overdue.
Suckin' Diesel - 07 Mar 07
A recent, light-hearted article on the BBC’s website listed 30 ways that readers felt the UK had changed over the last 10 years.
