Hectic - 15 Apr 08
That’s how life has been for the last week or more and its the reason for yet another spell of silence on Mad Eejits.
Where do we start? Well, Sarah’s dad had the flu. This meant Sarah had to work 6 days a week, rather than her normal 3 days, just to keep the family business ticking over. Which in turn meant we needed extra childcare for Ben, but unfortunately we didn’t even have his ‘normal’ childcare available as Sarah’s Mum had the flu too and my parent’s are away on holiday at the moment. On top of all this was the fact that it was my turn to be on-call for work, meaning I had to be contactable 24×7 and I had to handle a few late night issues during the week.
Going Green - One Year On - 10 Feb 08
On the eve of Mad Eejits hosting the Carnival of the Green for the first time, I thought it might be worthwhile to look back on our first year of trying to be more eco-friendly to see what we’ve achieved.
Daddy Day Care Survived! - 08 Feb 08
Sarah arrived back home this morning, officially marking the end of Daddy Day Care Week and I’m happy to declare it a success. Ben and I both made it through unharmed, well-fed and cleanly clothed. I managed to squeeze in two nappy washes over the week, so running out of clean ones was never likely to happen.
Daddy Day Care Update - 06 Feb 08
Well we’re still alive, so that’s good.
We’ve been having a great time, but as much as its fun, its also very tiring as there’s always something to be done. Some things are easier to do once Ben is asleep and some things you can’t do then because they might waken him (e.g. hoover, which by the way, Ben thinks is hilarious).
Daddy Day Care - 01 Feb 08
Tonight Sarah heads off to a trade fair, leaving Ben and me to fend for ourselves for a week. Its the first time that either one of us has been away, leaving the other one ‘holding the baby’ and I’ll admit to being slightly nervous about it. Its not like I’ve never looked after Ben on my own before, but there’s never been an ‘overnight’ involved before, nevermind 7 of them.
Happy First Birthday Ben! - 11 Nov 07

I can hardly believe that I’ve just typed those words, but yes, Ben is one year old today.
Stair Gates - 01 Nov 07
Surely a notable milestone in a child’s development is when, as a parent, you finally acknowledge that’s time to fit stair gates. Your little bundle of joy is no longer content with just being on the ground. No, now he (or she) wants to start climbing and anything & everything that was previously out of reach (CDs, telephones, ornaments etc) is now fair game (and certainly much more interesting that those toys on the floor that you spent your hard-earned money on).

Reusable Nappy Update - 14 Sep 07
Its nearly a month now since we made the switch to reusable nappies, for Ben, and really its a case of so far, so good.
A Weekend Away - 11 Sep 07
Last Saturday, one of my friends got married down in County Fermanagh and Sarah & I took the opportunity (read ‘excuse’) to make a weekend of it. Just the two of us. Without Ben. For the first time since he was born.
Our First Family Holiday - 16 Jul 07

We’re just back from our first little trip away as a family. Our destination wasn’t anywhere exotic, the weather wasn’t fantastic and we were only away for 5 days, but it was still nice to get a break and we certainly enjoyed it.
Fever - A Lovely Way to Burn? - 04 Jun 07
Ben certainly didn’t seem to think so when the poor little guy reached 40 degrees (about 104 in old money) by 4am on Friday night / Saturday morning.
It all started after my comments about ‘Man Flu’ in my previous post (nearly a week ago now). By late afternoon that day, real flu was setting in on me, complete with shivers, sweats and soreness. Sarah followed suit on Wednesday morning and we had to ship poor Ben off to his granny’s (where he had a great time, even with a cold) as neither of us was fit to look after him.
A Different Shade of Green - 29 May 07
‘Snot’ green to be precise.
It had to happen eventually and now it has – all 3 of us have picked up a cold at the same time. Ben had his first cold much earlier in the year, but thankfully, at that time, Sarah and I didn’t catch it (or not immediately at least). This time the scene must be comedic for any outside observers, with the 3 of us coughing and wiping runny noses, of which Ben’s is the worst. He’s only a little guy so where does all that mucus come from?
Finding His Voice - 02 May 07

Constantly seeking to add to his range of vocal talents, our son Ben (now nearly six months old) has learnt to shriek. Not little baby wails or cries but ear-drum-piercing shrieks.
