A recent, light-hearted article on the BBC’s website listed 30 ways that readers felt the UK had changed over the last 10 years.
Amongst the humourous and ironic suggestions appeared the following gem:
“Northern Ireland is one of the UK’s top tourist destinations.”
Its true. Ten years ago, we were still in the early days (ok, years) of the ceasefires and many people would still have had reservations about visiting Norn Iron. Fifteen years ago, most people probably wouldn’t even have considered coming here at all. Whilst we always tried to tell folks that things weren’t as bad as they were made out to be on the news, there were still those that believed a flak jacket was essential wear on the streets of Belfast.
Now, however, all that has changed and whilst the politicians still bicker amongst themselves, Northern Ireland has picked itself up and moved on. For such a small place, it certainly has a lot to offer and that message is finally getting through to the tourists.
If you’re planning a trip to Northern Ireland yourself, or if you thought that this was going to be an article about cars or transport, maybe you should learn high till speak Norn Iron.
