Shutdown Day 28 Feb 07
An interesting experiment that appears to be gathering momentum is Shutdown Day, which asks people to try turning off their computers for one day to see how they cope without them.
With originally no greater intentions than that, the experiment has caught the eye of some environmental groups, who see it as an opportunity to encourage people to save energy by turning off their computers more often.
Shutdown Day is 24th March, a Saturday, which probably leaves most folks with fewer excuses about needing their computers for work. However, for those that think this could be an easy task, it should be noted that in the details of the experiment it is suggested that games consoles, PDAs and even mobile phones (once you’ve arranged something fun to do for the day) may also need to be considered for shutting down.
I’ve signed up as a participant and plan to go for a nice long family walk that day so that computers will be out of sight and (hopefully) out of mind. To add your name to the participants, simply visit the Shutdown Day site and click the “I Can” button.
