Fever - A Lovely Way to Burn? 04 Jun 07
Ben certainly didn’t seem to think so when the poor little guy reached 40 degrees (about 104 in old money) by 4am on Friday night / Saturday morning.
It all started after my comments about ‘Man Flu’ in my previous post (nearly a week ago now). By late afternoon that day, real flu was setting in on me, complete with shivers, sweats and soreness. Sarah followed suit on Wednesday morning and we had to ship poor Ben off to his granny’s (where he had a great time, even with a cold) as neither of us was fit to look after him.
Thursday seemed to see the tide turn – Sarah and I were feeling a bit better and Ben looked to be on the mend. Come Friday however, his temperature had risen and he just didn’t seem like himself at all. A quick visit to the Doctor confirmed that it was only a heavy dose of the cold and not anything more sinister, but we had to keep an eye on his temperature and use a combination of ‘Calpol’ and ‘Nurofen for Children’ to try to bring it down.
When Ben started crying in the early hours of Saturday morning, he was actually hot to the touch and, as well as his doses of medicine, it took a cool sponge bath to help settle him again. Thankfully, that’s where his fever peaked and started to retreat, but it left him very lethargic on both Saturday and Sunday to the extent that we took him to the out-of-hours clinic yesterday just to get him checked over again.
Today he’s much more lively and, though not fully back to his old self, it does appear that he’s really on the mend this time.
