Daddy Day Care Survived!

Sarah arrived back home this morning, officially marking the end of Daddy Day Care Week and I’m happy to declare it a success. Ben and I both made it through unharmed, well-fed and cleanly clothed. I managed to squeeze in two nappy washes over the week, so running out of clean ones was never likely to happen.

Over the week there were no immediately obvious signs that Ben was missing Sarah, though he would take a good look around each room we entered, maybe to see if she was there. However, when my Mum and Dad came up, any time I left the room, Ben would start to wail. It became clear then that he knew something was up. Mummy was gone and he didn’t want Daddy going too.

I’m not sure what kind of reaction I expected from Ben this morning when Sarah got home but there was hardly any reaction at all. Sarah arrived back early and was able to lift Ben from his cot when he woke up. I think the little guy was still to dopey to really notice who was giving him the great big cuddles. By the time I was leaving for work, he was starting to come round though, walking over to Sarah for a snuggle every now and again.

We’ve very little planned for this weekend, just a nice family time at home. It’ll probably take a day or two just for everything to settle back into its normal pattern – something that I’m looking forward to. I did enjoy the extra time that I had with Ben this week but I’m really glad to have Sarah back, and not just as “Ben’s Mum” either.
