Back for 2009

No sooner than I had posted, in August, that 3 months without a post must have been a new record for me, I knew that I had given myself a challenge. Through hard training, good discipline and impressive self-denial, I persevered though the long months of Autumn and into the midst of Winter. The journey has been tough but so worthwhile as I can now present to you over four and a half months of no posts! Oh, how I spoil you.

Unfortunately, now I’m back posting again. I won’t call it ‘New Year’s Resolution’ (as then I am sure to break it), but I do plan to get back into the way of posting more often. I still haven’t told you the wood-burning stove installation saga, but when I do I can now add our experiences of using it over Christmas, keeping it burning merrily for days at a time, instead of just on chilly evenings here and there. (The first time you get it to burn right through the night is a great feeling).

In shocking news, the 4×4 has gone! Having defended it in the past, I plan to tell you why it ‘hit the road’ and turned out to be one of the shortest-owned cars in both Sarah’s car history and my own.

In frustrating news, my Cycle to Work bike still hasn’t shown up. That’s over six months now. Folks who participated in my company’s second offering of the scheme, in November, have already received their bikes and still I wait, slowly accumulating a small heap of cycling gear with no bike to use it with. Given a supply chain that includes no fewer than four different companies, there’s a lot of finger pointing going on, but very little in the way of actual information.

Ben turned two in November and is developing into quite a little monkey. He’s not bad, but he is full of playful mischief. His antics make my parent’s reminisce about my own childhood and talk about ‘payback’. Sarah also celebrated a birthday recently. It would be rude of me to mention her age, but if you take Ben’s age and add 30, you’ll figure it out.

Well that’s all for now, but given that its still the first half of January, I don’t think its too late to wish our readers ‘Happy New Year… to you both.’
