An Unexpected Bonus 27 Feb 08
Isn’t a great feeling when you put on a coat or jacket that you haven’t worn in a while and find some money in one of the pockets? It might be £5, £10 or even £20, but the amount doesn’t really matter. What’s more important is that you didn’t know you’d lost the money, so when you find it, its like getting something for nothing.
Well, I had a similar experience at the end of last week when, out of the blue, a cheque arrived in the post from my previous employers. It was the payout from the company’s bonus scheme for the last quarter of 2007, while I was still there. Knowing how long it normally takes for these things to be processed (2 months in this case), I never dreamt that I’d actually received a payout for that last quarter, because I’d be long gone.
However, sometimes its nice to be wrong and especially nice in this case is the fact that Sarah and I have a long running agreement that bonuses don’t go into our joint account. Instead, they can be used for whatever the recipient sees fit to do with them, so I’m going to put my bonus towards some cycling gear. Which reminds me, I really must chase my current employers on the Cycle to Work scheme thing again.
