A New Job for the New Year

Its taken nearly 6 months of searching, but I finally found the right opportunity for me to move on from my current role to something new. I’ll be finishing with my current employer before Christmas and will start the New Year in a new job.

It’ll be strange for me to leave my current job. Despite the fact that the company has been acquired, merged and changed names four times in my years there, its still the job that I took straight out of university and I did my placement year there too. In all, I’ve about nine and a half years invested with that company, almost a third of my life. Its no surprise then that I’ll miss a lot of the people there because I’ve made some good friends over the years, but we all have to move on at some point.

The IT job market in Belfast is possibly as buoyant as it was before the dot-com bubble burst and this allowed me to be fairly picky in my search, which is the reason why it took me 6 months. Along the way, I turned down a couple of job offers that didn’t tick all the boxes for me, but I also missed out on two roles that I’d really have liked. In the long run though, I really believe that the job I have secured is the right one for me.

Over the last few months, I’ve used my job search as a reason or excuse not to act on some other things that I’d like to change. Now, I feel that I can (and in some cases, must) move on.
