A Different Shade of Green

‘Snot’ green to be precise.

It had to happen eventually and now it has – all 3 of us have picked up a cold at the same time. Ben had his first cold much earlier in the year, but thankfully, at that time, Sarah and I didn’t catch it (or not immediately at least). This time the scene must be comedic for any outside observers, with the 3 of us coughing and wiping runny noses, of which Ben’s is the worst. He’s only a little guy so where does all that mucus come from?

Make Compost Not War

Our subsidised compost bin has arrived at last!

In anticipation of its arrival, Sarah has been storing kitchen scraps in a bucket outside the back door, so we’re off to a flying start already. However, with only a small garden, the compost itself isn’t our main motivator, but rather the opportunity to further reduce what we put in the landfill bin each fortnight.

M&S to Trial Plastic Bag Charge

Northern Ireland to be the Guinea Pig

British retail giant Marks & Spencer has announced that it will trial a 5p charge per plastic bag, in their Northern Ireland stores, to encourage shoppers to use fewer disposable bags. Yahoo Mail Plugs Freecycle

Freecycle Advert from Yahoo Mail

I did a double-take on spotting the above advert in my Yahoo Mail this morning. Freecycle, a recycling network, is run through Yahoo Groups, an advert supported service, so its not like Yahoo don’t have an interest in increasing the numbers of people signing up to the groups. However, its still great publicity for Freecycle.

May Day Fair

Knight on horseback assaults deadly melon

Yesterday, we took a trip to the May Day fair in Holywood, County Down, home to Ireland’s only Maypole. The fair had a Medieval theme and came complete with wandering minstrels, knights on horseback (who defended us from deadly watermelons) and all kinds of craft and produce stalls.

Finding His Voice

Ben

Constantly seeking to add to his range of vocal talents, our son Ben (now nearly six months old) has learnt to shriek. Not little baby wails or cries but ear-drum-piercing shrieks.
